Israel admits bombing Gaza refugee camp schools; Hamas rejects ceasefire, personnel exchange proposals.
In the early morning of 2004/06/06, Israel bombed a school in the Nusayreit refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, killing at least 30 people. The Israeli military admitted the attack that day and said the school was where Hamas was hiding. Located in the "Grand Courtyard".
The Israeli military admitted in a statement on Thursday that it recently launched a precision strike on a Hamas "compound" inside a school of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in the Nusayreit area. According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli army claimed that the bombing eliminated terrorists who planned to attack the Israeli army.
Ismail Tawabuta, director of the Hamas Media Office, condemned the Israeli attack as a "terrible massacre" and clear evidence of genocide and ethnic cleansing against civilians in Gaza.
Tawabuta also denied Israeli claims that the school was hiding a Hamas command post. Tawabuta said the Israeli military used false stories to justify the brutal crimes it committed.
At the same time, the Times of Israel reported on Thursday that Saudi Arabian media Asharq News revealed that Hamas has rejected Israel’s proposal for a ceasefire and personnel exchange agreement in Gaza. Hamas has not yet confirmed this.
Hamas claimed that the proposal was a temporary truce, not a permanent one, and that it would allow Israeli forces to remain in Gaza and resume hostilities after the hostages were released.
